The Shooter Shop in the K & A neighborhood of North Philadelphia has, according to ATF data, been one of the top 120 gun shops in the entire country having had the most guns sold eventually recovered from crime by law enforcement - indicating it is a likely site of straw purchasing and source of gun trafficking.

The Delaware Valley daily faces violence that takes a deadly toll, too often unacknowledged because the victims are frequently young, poor and/or people of color.  This violence that plagues the most vulnerable among us is due in large part to the easy and profitable availability of illegal handguns, both in this city and the Commonwealth.

It appears the Shooter Shop has long been known to both law enforcers and criminals as a prime source of illegal guns to the street market in Pennsylvania and other states.  According to an analysis of ATF data from 1969 t0 2000, the Shooter Shop was among the 120 top gun stores in the country in terms of guns it sold that were eventually recovered from crime (Note: The Tiahrt Amendment to ATF appropriations blocks public access to more recent data).  ATF calls such info a likely indicator of a gun store being a source of gun trafficking.

Traffickers know which gun dealers will look the other way when a straw buyer seeks to make a bulk buy of handguns, so they frequent those stores.  The Shooter Shop is in the portion of Philly gun dealers whose guns are consistently recovered from crime.
